Dennis E. Faulkenberg Dennis E. Faulkenberg, President of APPIAN, has spent his entire career advancing the transportation needs of the State of Indiana. Formerly the Deputy Commissioner and Chief Financial Officer of the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), he is a nationally-recognized transportation funding advisor.
With APPIAN, Faulkenberg serves clients with legislative and funding needs, both on the state and federal levels. He specializes in traditional and innovative financing mechanisms for transportation projects, and provides critical advice for highway, rail, and transit issues.
During his thirty years of transportation experience, he has led the effort to increase road funding for Indiana on a number of fronts. Some of these successful efforts include a lead role in:
- the coalition to pass funding for INDOT’s ten year highway plan, known as Major Moves; - a statewide initiative to increase state and local road funding by $650 M; and - a national campaign to change federal highway funding formulas, ultimately increasing Indiana’s funding by $262M each year under the Transportation Equity Act (TEA-21)
Faulkenberg also works directly with numerous local highway agencies and road coalition groups to obtain funding for their critical infrastructure investments.
He has worked in both the private sector, as the primary transportation and infrastructure policy advisor for Ice Miller, LLP as well as Johnson Smith LLP, and the public sector, with more than two decades with INDOT. While there, Faulkenberg successfully managed the state and federal legislative agenda for one of the largest agencies in state government.
Faulkenberg serves as the Chairman of the Infrastructure Committee of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, as well as a member of the Chamber's Congressional Affairs Committee. He is a founding member of the Board of Director of the Indiana Transportation Workers Foundation, Inc. In addition, he serves as a member of the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee. He has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Indianapolis Public Transportation Corporation (IndyGo) and serves as the Executive Director of the U.S. 31 Coalition, Inc.
